Mercer Island Cross Country is an all-inclusive program, welcoming student-athletes of all athletic levels. From those who rarely run a step to those who vie for state or national championships there is room for everyone who is willing to commit to the process and embrace the culture of the MIXC family.

Prior to Covid Mercer Island typically finished towards the middle to last in the league, consistently qualifying an individual or two to state but rarely a team. Since 2020 the program has been on an upward trajectory, resulting in eight Top 10 state team finishes. In 2024 and 2025, Mercer Island became the first (3A/4A) school to win back-to-back boys AND girls state championships. In addition, Mercer Island earned 5 individual state XC titles, an additional four podium (Top 10) finishes, four individual NXN qualifiers, and four Gatorade XC Players of the Year awards.

We offer a robust summer training program including Monday-Thursday practices on Mercer Island plus Friday morning destination runs around the region. We believe summer training is not only good for developing fitness but it’s great for building bonds that carry us through the regular season (and beyond!).
