We will have treats, team awards, games and fun at our End of Season Party! 

There will be an Activity Bus to take runners home afterward. 

Please wash your uniform and bring it to the party to turn in. Your uniform is the ticket that allows you into the party!

Optional Preseason Workouts 

Optional preseason workouts for Track & Field athletes after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the month of March. 3:00 - 4:00pm on the IMS Track with Coach Rennie. All IMS Student Athletes are welcome to join. These are voluntary opportunities to get in shape before the official season begins on April 3. Activity buses are available to shuttle athletes home after practice.

IMS Sports Registration

Practices start after school on Monday, April 3, 2023

Participants must have a completed Athletic Eligibility Packet before turning out for practices (Sports Eligibility Packets must be completed every school year.  Physical exams done by a doctor are valid for two years.) More information, including expectations, practice and meet dates, is available in the Schedule and FAQ documents.

 

Here is what you need to do in order to be eligible:

  1. Complete a 2022-23 Sports Eligibility Packet. It is available under “Athletic Forms” tab, or click Sports_Eligibility_Packet-_2021-22.docx (mercerislandschools.org) 

  2. Pay $60 IMS Sports Fee online

  3. Bring your OWN WATER BOTTLE to practice. Use the fill-up stations in the buildings. There will be NO sharing of water bottles whatsoever.

4/3: IMS First Day of Track & Field Season

MPORTANT INFORMATION

  • Sports eligibility packet (including physical examination form) must be complete before attending practice.

  • Athletes must participate in a minimum of 8 practices to be eligible to compete in Track & Field meets.

  • Masks are optional for athletes, coaches and spectators, in accordance with Washington DOH guidelines.

  • Athletes will be dismissed according to schedule above for AWAY Track & Field meets.

  •  Athletes change into uniforms at lunch for away meets.

  • Buses depart 10 minutes after school dismissal.

  • Athletes in Track & Field meets compete against their own grade and gender classification.

  • Races may sometimes be combined for expediency, but results are reported separately

FAQ: Top 10 Frequently Asked Questions

TOP TEN THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW!

  1. You are EXPECTED to travel to, and participate in, the Track Meets. If you are looking for a conditioning club…you’ve come to the wrong place.

  2. You will need a minimum of EIGHT PRACTICES to be eligible to compete in a Track Meet. There will be 13 possible practices before the first meet. The first practice of the Track & Field Season is on Monday, April 3!

  3. We will start practice promptly 10 minutes after school is out. Be on the track, in workout gear, running shoes laced, water bottle filled.

  4. Practice runs from 3:00—4:15 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Practice runs from 1:30—2:45 pm on Wednesdays.

  5. Activity bus departs from bus zone 10 minutes after practice, every day EXCEPT Fridays.

  6. You will be able to train to compete in the following running events: 75m Hurdles, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m, 4x100m, 4x200m & Medley Relay

  7. You will be able to train to compete in the following field events: Discus, Shot Put, High Jump & Long Jump

  8. We are limited to FOUR competitors per grade/gender group in 75m Hurdles, 100m, 200m & 400m at each Meet; and EIGHT competitors per group in 800m & 1600m. Plan on taking part in relays and field events regularly to help your team!

  9. Your coaches for the season are:

  • Coach Stephen Rennie (distance + hurdles)

  • Coach Gene Nomicos (sprints + relays)

  • Coach Ryan Hoisington (discus + shotput)

  • Coach Russ Skurski (long jump + high jump)

  1. Track & Field is about competing against yourself…working hard as a team… trying new things…and having fun along the way… If you are ready to do those four things, we are going to have a great season!

Team Spirit Wear Available - Open

It's time for pre-season preparation and that means preparing to look great!  We have opened our online Pop Up Gear store for Mercer Island Track and Field logo wear!  We have shirts, shorts, hoodies, jackets for athletes, parents and fans.  The 2023 MIHS Team Captains have created a new logo for this Track and Field season (see below), so don't miss out on a chance to get some unique sportswear. Certain items are available with the traditional Club logo.  Every item is available to anyone, young and old.

Delivery times are 7-10 days and the store will remain open for the duration of the season.
