Coach Susan Update September 15, 2025

It’s been another great week for MIXC!

We hosted our first meet of the season and are awfully proud of all who ran their very first 5k. As we discussed at practice afterwards, sadly the 5ks don’t actually get easier. However, if we consistently come to practice and embrace the process, we learn to deal with the hard part better and are done that much faster! Not to mention, the satisfaction you get from doing hard things (and XC is hard!) is priceless. Results of the MIHS/Woodinville/Cedarcrest invite can be found here.

Thank you to the volunteers who helped guide runners, kept paths cleared, and helped clean up afterwards. Thank you also to the Bergman family for hosting our first pasta feed of the season.

After every race we award a “Workhorse” shirt that is a given to an athlete who exhibits any number of qualities – great work ethic, sportsmanship, spirit, tremendous grit – or anything else that stands out to the coaches. This week we awarded our first shirts of the year to sophomore, Kellan Doroski and freshmen, Bella Heczey. These two runners are coincidentally both new to the program but have made an immediate impact with their enthusiasm for our team.

We don’t put a ton of emphasis on regular season meets team wins and focus more on running good times or competing to the best of our ability on that particular day. The invitationals are where we try to run our very best and place as high as we can. Bellarmine was a great opportunity to see how we stacked up against some good programs – and while we were down several people because of SATs and/ or college visits, MIXC was well represented. Results of the Bellarmine Invite can be found here.

Next week we will race at Mt. Si and on Friday, 29 athletes will head south to Oregon to compete at The Mook Invitational on the Alderbrook golf Course where we hope to run some fast times and hopefully secure an award or two.
